First, my apologies for not answering this sooner, and now to answer your question, (which is quite a good one!)
Personally, I preferred skype, in the sense even if video isnt used, headphones and the laptop microphone made it easier to be “handsfree”. ;)
Though, if you are limited to your phones, while I dont know what you’re using, many have headphone sockets anyways, allowing you to set the phone next to you and still tuned in- or a bluetooth piece- though personally find that tacky or odd? haha.
As the saying goes of course, if there’s a will, there’s a way. ;)
